Tom Ridge Environmental Center
President’s Award

A President’s Award of Excellence has been given to the Tom Ridge Environmental Center. The jury was impressed by the use of the LEED certified porous paving, recycled lumber and bio drainage facilities. This very sophisticated design element started right at the beginning of the visitor’s experience upon arrival. A well developed concept.

The Healing Garden

An Honor Award has been given to The Healing Garden at Saint Mary Medical Center.  The jury noted the exquisite detail and the lush and powerful design; a good example of a well executed project.

Tarp Farm 
Honor Award   |   Carter Van Dyke Associates

An Honor Award has been given to the Tarp Farm, a private residential garden located on a 12 acre tract in Upper Makefield, Pennsylvania. The jury felt the mix of indigenous and exotic materials works well. The built features from different periods blend quite nicely; a “Private Longwood Gardens”. Overall, the site plan flows nicely and makes sense.

Rehobeth Beach Enhancements
Merit Award    |    Johnson Mirmiran & Thompson

A Merit Award has been given to the Rehobeth Beach Enhancements project.
The jury found the project was an excellent use of the services of landscape architects and showed how consensus building can lead to great results.

The Peninsula on the Indian River Bay
Merit Award    |   Lewis Scully Gionet, Inc.

A Merit Award has been given to The Peninsula on the Indian River Bay.
A very non-typical, large scale development that counters the notion of environmental damaged impacts with runoff, pesticides and reduction of wetlands, the jury noted that this project has a very nice sense of scale for something this large. It delivers what was promised – not an easy thing to do.

Eastview Terrace at the PA State University

A Merit Award has been given to Eastview Terrace at the Pennsylvania State University. The jury felt the design solution was an excellent overall hillside plan with a pleasant use of the grade change along with a nice planting design. A stronger visual and terminus axis would have resulted in an even better product. The materials blend nicely in context.

Saint Mary Street Park
Merit Award    |   Yost, Strodoski, Mears

A Merit Award has been given to the Saint Mary Street Park. The jury found the project made an amazing transformation of the project site. The park works well as a destination for the entire community.

St. Louis Street Enhancement
Special Recognition    |   Herbert, Rowland & Grubic, Inc.

A Special Recognition Award has been given to the St. Louis Street Enhancement project. The jury found this project represented a well executed project with limited funds. Safety enhancements were provided for pedestrians at the same time as the project created an upgrade benefit to the surrounding businesses and neighborhood.

Wilson Farm Park
Special Recognition    |   Simone Collins, Inc.

A Special Recognition Award has been given to the Wilson Farm Park. The jury found this project to represent very good detailing for its Chester County context. The reduced lawn along with the creation of meadow and reforestation area was a nice change from the site improvements typical of such development. A nice balance of demands from active and passive constituents.

Johnson & Johnson Porous Asphalt Parking Lot
Special Recognition    |   Kling Stubbins

A Special Recognition Award has been given to the Johnson & Johnson Porous Asphalt Parking Lot. The jury felt the project was environmentally sound, was a nice marriage between aesthetics and sustainability, and represented a must-do concept these days. The role of the landscape architect was the difference.

Roberto Clemente Park
Special Recognition    |   Yost, Strodoski, Mears

A Special Recognition Award has been given to the Roberto Clemente Park. The jury found the project significantly improved the site and provided increased safety. The community and stakeholder involvement shows success. Full services provided by the landscape architect made the difference. A successful Brownfield project. Process and participation was the best part of the project and should be recognized – while the design was satisfactory, the process was excellent.

Hartsville Village
Special Recognition    |   Carter Van Dyke Associates

A Special Recognition Award has been given to the Hartsville Professional Village. Having the landscape architect as lead consultant added vision and value to the project according to the jury. Attention to historic detail, both building and plants, made it successful. This is the way new development should be approached in mature contexts.

PA Route 113 Heritage Corridor

A President’s Award of Excellence has been given to the PA Route 113 Heritage Corridor. The jury found the design to be very appropriate. The input of the landscape architect preserved the character most desired to be retained. The solution was both reasonable and achievable, while the alternative was not acceptable.

Arcadia University Landscape Master Plan Route 113 Heritage Corridor

An Honor Award has been given to the Arcadia University Landscape Master Plan. The jury found the analysis lays out in a comprehensive fashion how the college will develop in the future. The study brought together groups to create the plan; quite clear – great packaging.

South Bethlehem Greenway Master Plan

A Merit Award has been given to the South Bethlehem Greenway Master Plan. The jury felt the analysis provided clear graphics and positive suggestions, while the solutions could be realistically implemented.

Designing Outdoor Environments for Children
President’s Award     |    Lolly Tai/Mary Taylor Haque

A President’s Award of Excellence has been given to the book entitled Designing Outdoor Environments for Children. The jury found the book to be wonderfully illustrated and chock full of very useful information. This will be a great tool in the training and knowledge of a landscape architect in a very practical manner – good for every day use.

Nature Nurtures – Mind, Body and Spirit
Honor Award     |    Students, Faculty and Staff of the Department of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture of Ambler College, Temple University

An Honor Award has been given to Nature Nurtures – Mind, Body and Spirit. The jury was impressed by the innovation of the exhibit. The Flower Show is a great venue for educating the public about the profession, the capabilities of the landscape architecture and horticultural students, and the benefits of healing gardens in today’s world.
